Moving together via skateboard and balloons

Our latest team event was all about creating a chain reaction - but with very different materials.

We are sure you're all familiar with the chain reaction when you drop a domino piece against a whole row of other standing domino pieces. It often looks very impressive, doesn't it? Our latest team event was also about creating such an effect - but with completely different materials. Who would have thought that the event would have so many insights into our work?

Balloons, toy cars, party lights, balls, tin cans, feathers, a skateboard. These are just some of the tools we used to implement our big setup at the team event. The challenge: Three teams had to build the longest and most varied chain reaction possible within two hours. Auxiliary materials? Anything that seemed suitable.

What sounds easy was in reality not quite so simple - in principle, just like in real working life: Sometimes you find a solution right away, sometimes you have to try a bit before it fits properly. In any case, our teams did their best, and the process was more than exciting. Every single person initially had his or her own idea, which he or she tried to realize. Some things worked well, others less or not at all, and so it was a matter of clear and much communication in order to link the individual approaches together and then arrive at the optimal solution together.

It was fascinating to observe that in many solutions the personality and the area of responsibility of the respective players became obvious. We were often able to recognize which idea had come from whom. Our programmers, for example, often tended to come up with very specific and functional solutions, whereas their colleagues from Sales and Marketing placed particular emphasis on visuals. The support staff, on the other hand, tried to find a solution that was as quick and simple as possible. Our conclusion: there are different approaches to solving a single problem, depending on the position from which it is viewed or the perspective it is looked at from.

In the end, our teams worked together to find the one perfect solution, which then reflected our great diversity. We are completely satisfied with our event, as it was not only very fun and insightful, but also brought us even closer together in terms of collaboration. It was great to see that our new colleagues met the employees from Romania for the first time, got to know each other very quickly and got along really well. We already have some ideas for the next team event - and we'll be happy to share our impressions with you again in our blog.
