What goes with every Christmas and is always guaranteed to get a laugh? We're not talking about a Christmas carol sung out of tune, but a really tacky Christmas sweater! Anything that pushes the boundaries of good taste is allowed. Wild patterns, sewn-on bells and flashing LEDs have already been spotted at Christmas parties. We couldn't resist dressing up and pulling the funniest items out of the wardrobe. The result? An internal best-of of the funniest Christmas sweaters from Marcel, Sabrina and Lena!

Where does the custom of the "Ugly Christmas Sweater" actually come from?

So-called Ugly Christmas sweaters or sweaters - i.e. exaggeratedly ugly Christmas sweaters - were invented in the UK. The tradition has also enjoyed great popularity in the USA for years.

The fashion became internationally famous in 2001 with the film "Bridget Jones". In one scene, Colin Firth, alias Mr. Darcy, wears a chic reindeer sweater, which the title character Bridget Jones approves of with horror. For years, tasteless tops were considered embarrassing or stuffy.

Even Michael Bublé sings "Put a Christmas sweater on it's got to be done" in a song dedicated exclusively to the phenomenon of the kitschy Christmas sweater. What's got to be, has to be, but at least there's now even a point to it. The British non-governmental organization Save the Children has been using the woolly madness for a good cause since 2012. Under the motto "Make the world better with a sweater", people are encouraged to wear a Christmas sweater on Christmas Jumper Day and donate to the protection of children. Thousands have taken part in the campaign in recent years.

Some sweaters also have a political message. For example, the environmental organization WWF took the opportunity in 2018 to launch the "Uncozy Sweater" for the Christmas season. The "uncomfortable sweater" drew attention to climate change with its motifs. Among other things, you can see polar bears on a melting ice floe. Unfortunately, the item is no longer available. It's high time for a new edition.

Nr. 1:

Marcel Termöllen has already made a big impression with this cozy, warm Simpson-style Christmas sweater. None other than Homer Simpson himself, holding a can of beer in his hand, greets you cheerfully on the festive season. The Santa Claus costume is impressive and gives the sweater the necessary Christmassy touch. We think: Extremely ugly - we would wear it!

Nr. 2:

As an unbeatable duo, Sabrina sends Christmas greetings with her dog Nouki. What should not be missing? The fun Christmas sweater, of course! In bright pink with a glittering Santa Claus wearing heart-shaped glasses, the sweater is sure to catch the eye. And it's definitely something different from the usual red, green and white models. We think: Excellent choice that goes great with the color of your hair, Sabrina. Extra sympathy points for Nouki definitely make your sweater our favorite!

Nr. 3:

Strictly speaking, what our marketing student Lena is wearing there is not a classic ugly Christmas sweater - but a warm and beautifully silly-looking kangaroo onesie. The Christmas greetings are on her head in the form of a Christmas hat. Admittedly, the overall does look cozy and certainly keeps you warm. Please also with a dog and cat pattern for the entire staffitpro team!

Well, which fashionable item of clothing would you wear? Each piece definitely has its own charm. We all have that one sweater at home that we love, precisely because it looks so crazy - and is all the more cozy. Whether it's beer-drinking Homer Simpsons, glittery Santas or kangaroos with Christmas hats - we all have our own personal little trademark hanging in our wardrobe. And we appreciate our funny, warm companions who reliably get us through the cold days at home and keep us in the Christmas spirit!
